On October 10th, 2022, we bring awareness of mental health issues around the world and offer support and resources to better inform and support communities. Here at Huli'tun, we have our family counsellor who can support us with counselling and navigate systems to find the best mental health support locally.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Are you an aging man with a family history of prostate cancer? Do you smoke or are your overweight? It is time to have a conversation with your family doctor or nurse practitioner about your risks of prostate cancer. Do you have any of the following symptoms: trouble peeing, painful ejaculation, blood in your urine or semen?                                                                                                                                                                          Your provider can order a blood test called a PSA and do a DRE exam on you. (digital rectal exam) In the meantime, some prostate prevention tips would include being tobacco-free, limiting alcohol, moving more and sitting less, and aiming for living in balance mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Suicide Prevention Awareness Day Sept 10th, 2022

Canada has the highest numbers of suicides rates amongst the Indigenous population. A study has shown that Canada’s suicides and self-inflicted injuries are the leading causes of death for Indigenous youths and adults up to age 44.

What we can do: Awareness within our communities and prevention is important. If you or someone you know needs support a list of 24-hour crisis lines are available below.
